Rev'd Greg Syler

Rector

Greg Syler became the first rector of Resurrection Parish in 2021 – when Patuxent Parish (Ascension) and William & Mary Parish (St. George’s) merged. In 2007, he was called to be the rector of St. George’s and, in 2017, of Ascension. He also serves as Priest-in-Charge of All Saints Episcopal Church in Avenue, MD. He has an M.Div. from the University of Chicago, and studied at the Virginia Theological Seminary. Greg serves our community in a number of ways, as Coordinator for Circles St. Mary’s County, a poverty alleviation system being developed with St. Mary’s DSS, and on the boards of Hope for St. Mary’s, Feed St. Mary’s, Bay Montessori School, Three Oaks Center and the Literacy Council of St. Mary’s. In The Episcopal Church and Diocese of Washington, Greg has served as Deputy to General Convention, on Standing Committee, Diocesan Council, Constitution & Canons Committee, Bishop’s Search Committee and as Dean of the Southern Maryland region. He lives in Valley Lee with his family.


Rev’d Laura Carpenter

Deacon & Seminarian

Deacon Laura was called to serve as Deacon & Seminarian at Resurrection Parish in 2024 and has served as Deacon at All Saints’ Church since 2021. Ordained in the Diocese of Maryland in 2020, Laura served two parishes in Calvert County as well as All Saints’ in St. Mary’s County. Laura is the Assistant Principal at Benjamin Banneker School in Loveville, and has served as a teacher and administrator in the St. Mary’s County Public School System for nearly 30 years. A postulant for the priesthood in the Diocese of Washington – where she is now canonically resident – Laura has begun a low-residency, three-year M.Div. program at The General Theological Seminary, the Episcopal Church’s oldest seminary. Laura has gifts and a real passion for community-development and Christian formation, and her leadership as both deacon and seminarian are invaluable for Resurrection Parish and All Saints’. Laura lives in Leonardtown with her family. 


Rev'd Martha "Marty" Eldredge

Deacon

Marty Eldredge was called to serve as Deacon at Ascension & St. George’s in the fall of 2018, following her ordination. She has a passion for food-related ministries that look closely at hunger and food scarcity in the area. Deacon Marty has a love for our acolytes and lay liturgical leaders. She and her husband, Paul, were married in 1965, and together they raised 3 children in Illinois. They have 6 grandchildren. Marty and Paul moved to Southern Maryland 20 years ago. Among the many other things, they enjoy sailing together. Deacon Marty has a passion for training and riding horses.


Rev'd Joan Crittenden

Deacon

Joan was ordained in the Diocese of Washington in September 2018. She has served in congregations in Prince George’s and Charles County before Resurrection Parish. She became an Episcopalian 30 years ago at Church of the Ascension where she served on many Lay Ministries. She has a Master’s Degree in Business and Interpersonal Communications, and retired from the Department of the Navy in 2008. Joan is an advocate of Palliative and Hospice Care and is a trained End-of-Life Doula. Joan and her husband, Ron have two daughters, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She resides in La Plata, MD.


Kimberly Robinson

Parish Administrator

Kimberly Robinson is Ascension & St. George’s Parish Administrator, seamlessly managing the ‘business side’ of our common life from the church office in Valley Lee. Originally from Michigan, Kimberly studied administrative technology and worked in the non-profit sector in Michigan and Kentucky before she and her family moved to St. Mary’s County. She enjoys cooking, making homemade dog treats, weekend road trips, and volunteering.  


Janeen Shane

Worship Leader

Janeen Shane recently moved to St. Mary’s County with her husband, David. She is originally from the Seattle area, where she grew up serving in ministry with her family. With a background in contemporary and gospel worship music, she is most passionate about creating music that makes room for diverse and inviting worship. From 2018-2021, Janeen lived in Istanbul and Antalya, Türkiye as a student. She learned Turkish and Farsi and worked fostering cross-cultural relationships. Janeen’s passion is for language and cultural acquisition. She received her BA in Linguistic/Cultural Anthropology, and is excited to pursue a career in ministry. Janeen feels blessed to join the Parish as a worship leader and joining the congregation in Spirit led worship.


Kevin Gardiner

Musician

Kevin Gardiner is a graduate of Elizabethtown College and the University of Phoenix, from which he holds degrees in Music Education and Education (Curriculum and Technology). He has taught high school band and orchestra, as well as elementary band and general music in Harford, Charles, and St. Mary's Counties. In his free time he enjoys writing music and fiction.
